HVAC in Turin

Turin at a glance

Turin is a hamlet in Lethbridge County about 56 km northeast of Lethbridge, on Highway 25 beside a Canadian Pacific Kansas City rail line. It was founded in 1908.

What that means for your heating

Rural homes this far from the city need a heating system they can rely on, and a breakdown in a cold spell is more than an inconvenience. Yearly tune-ups and a spare filter on hand help. See maintenance and tune-ups.

Open country

Turin is surrounded by farmland, and wind sweeps across it with little to stop it. Older farmhouses with drafty windows lose heat quickly, so sealing ducts and drafts can make a bigger difference than a larger furnace. Farm families often heat a shop or barn as well as the house, sometimes with a separate heater that sees heavy use in calving season or harvest. Those heaters deserve the same yearly check as the house furnace.

Named after a horse

Turin was founded in 1908 and named after the first settler's horse. Because it shares a name with Turin, Italy, the hamlet raised an Olympic flag to coincide with the 2006 Winter Olympics held there. Today it's a quiet rural community where many homes are farmhouses that have been added to over the years. Additions often end up colder or warmer than the rest of the house because the original ductwork wasn't designed for them. A ductless mini-split can bring an addition into line without new ducts, and it adds cooling for summer too.
